California Fires

Many have inquired about the California fires and our safety. Fortunately, we are not near any of the major fires. However, last week we were living in a cloud of smoke. The air quality was so poor that we were confined to the house for a few days, but the smoke has cleared for now...

Last weekend, we went to the mountains to escape the smoke and check out Donner Lake, which is about 15 minutes north of Lake Tahoe. Greg has been interested in the lake primarily because of its history...I won't go in to the gory details, but they can be found at this website
if you are interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party. While at Donner Lake, daddy caught a garter snake. Later, we saw a small bear just south of our campground! Finn was very excited...Chet was clueless.

We are headed up the mountain again this weekend with boat in tow. We will overnight on it this holiday weekend and every weekend from now through Labor Day!

Have a great and safe holiday!

Long Canyon Water Hole

Went on a new adventure yesterday to Long Canyon Water Hole. It's located deep in the Sierra Mountains! Although a long drive to our destination...it was well worth it. The kids waded in the river and threw rocks...while mom & dad took a swim in the refreshing water hole!

The Skaggs Family Visit

One week after my parents visit, we had Greg's sister's family here! It was their first trip to California since our move.

It was a fun filled week packed with adventure! We started with a local tour of Gold Country... which included a tour of a gold mine as well as panning for gold on the American River. Unfortunately, no major gold discoveries...

Then we were off to Yosemite to camp for three days! The weather was perfect. We explored the valley floor, drove up to Glacier Point (no snow this time!), and a tram tour of the Giant Sequoias in Mariposa Grove. Beth, Phil and Lainey also went horseback riding through the park.

Thursday, we headed to the coast to play on the beach and check out the seals!

Friday, Greg's Uncle Bruce, Aunt Lisa, and her sister Leslie joined up with us for a day trip to Tahoe. As always...picturesque and fun!

It was sad to see the cousins go...but we look forward to seeing them in Michigan this September!

Grandma & Grandpa Rosencrans Visit

In late May, Grandma and Grandpa Rosencrans came for a visit! They arrived to unseasonal temperatures of over a 100 degrees! So we headed to Tahoe to cool off. Although sunny and 82 degrees in Tahoe, the water temperature was anything but warm. I'm guessing in the 50's? Still, an amazing day in the mountains and on the lake! In fact, I think Dad will tell you it's his favorite place to visit in California...

The unseasonal weather & temperatures continued as we headed to Yosemite! The first day was picturesque with near perfect weather. However, the following day gave us rain, clouds and snow!! Yes, snow! Oh well, it did not stop the fun and sight seeing!

Unfortunately, the remainder of their vacation was unseasonably cool ...so we spent the later part of their vacation close to home, which allowed them to spend some quality time with the boys! We look forward to their visit next year!
